Following a prosecution and Court imposed fine on EcoTyre director, Mr Keith Stephen for stockpiling almost half a million tyres at a leased Bunting Road, Brooklyn site, EPA Victoria has issued a clean up notice to the owners of the site directing the removal of the tyres.

Director of environmental services, Bruce Dawson said following a recent prosecution the Court was told that the polluter had insufficient funds to clean up the site.

“Under EPA legislation land owners can be liable and EPA Victoria has directed the owners to clean up,” he said.

“Commercial property owners need to make it their business to know what occurs on their land – much like you would for a rental property.”

The owners have until late November to clean up the site. EPA Victoria has also issued a Pollution Abatement Notice to prevent the receipt of any additional tyres at the site.
